Easy Teriyaki Sauce Recipe
Easy and Simple Teriyaki Sauce
I was browsing the grocery store aisle looking for organic teriyaki sauce when I just found a bunch of sauces filled with unhealthy preservatives. I kept looking thinking that the ideal teriyaki sauce was just minutes away. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything. I was at such a loss for how much junk was in each sauce in the Asian sauce aisle that I decided that if I couldn't find what I was looking for, then I would make my own Teriyaki sauce. The secret to a great sauce is the umami flavor. Umami flavor is being able to combine sweet and sour flavors into a savory delicious combination that you just want to eat more of. The best thing about this particular sauce recipe is that you have plenty left over for another dish! It's also a budget dish as it is cheaper to make this sauce than buy a container of it filled with unhealthy preservatives. This sauce is great to use for teriyaki chicken or the teriyaki salmon recipe I have on my blog!
Ingredients:
1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup pineapple juice or additional water

1 1/2 tsp ginger, grated
3 tbsp brown sugar
Slurry:
2 tbsp water
2 tbsp cornstarch
Instructions:
- In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, water, juice, garlic, ginger and brown sugar.
- Turn the heat to medium and simmer until the brown sugar dissolves.
- In a separate bowl, combine cornstarch and water, mixing well.
- While the sauce is at a low boil, slowly add the slurry, a little at a time, until the sauce is thickened.
