Easy Salmon Burger Recipe

Easy Salmon Burger Recipe

Looking for a weeknight idea your kids would love?  Look no further than this super easy, one-bowl salmon burger recipe.  I was trying to figure out what to feed my kids for dinner when salmon burgers popped into my head.  I decided to make it easy on myself and buy premade salmon burgers from Trader Joe's.  Anyway, I was looking through the ingredients list on the premade salmon burgers and saw a list of ingredients I could not feed my children.  Carrageenan popped on the list and I just had to stop.  This ingredient is potentially carcinogenic and can be found in ice creams, desserts, and salmon burgers.  Studies have shown that carrageenan, used to thicken, emulsify, and preserve foods, causes inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. It can cause bloating, irritable bowel disease, and even colon cancer.  I always read the labels to make sure my prepackaged goods do not contain carrageenan.  I was upset that this ingredient was in my salmon burgers.  I remember when I was a child, my dad would make salmon burgers from canned salmon.  I decided to give it a try.  And guess what?  It is so easy to make your own salmon burgers, that you will never resort to the premade salmon burgers again.  Most premade foods have more salt than is needed and are filled with harmful preservatives.  Give this recipe a try.  I guarantee it will be a staple in your home.

Salmon burgers contain healthy Omega-3 fats that are good for your heart and cholesterol levels.  They bring back memories of my youth where most of our food was prepared from scratch.  We rarely ate prepackaged meals.

If you are into quick clean-up, this recipe is for you. You only need a bowl and a frying pan.  It is also really economical and costs just a few dollars to make.  The basic ingredients are canned salmon, Italian bread crumbs, chopped onion, 2 eggs, and some olive oil for pan frying.  Brioche hamburger buns topped with onions, tomatoes, ketchup, and mustard bring these burgers together.

Ingredients:

1 (14.75 ounce) can canned salmon

1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs

1/4 cup chopped onion

2 eggs

4 tablespoons olive oil

Directions:

Gather all ingredients.  Drain liquid from canned salmon and place in a medium bowl.  Add bread crumbs, onion, and egg.  Mix well to combine.  Shape into patties.

In a frying pan, add olive oil over medium heat and cook patties until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.  Drain on paper towels.

Enjoy!
